Surprise attack
Nessun particolare avvertimento o warning.
Kanzaki Nao was walking steadily towards the busy and crowded street. She was late that day, she had some errands to run and her father to visit at the hospital. If she was clever – as a certain someone she didn’t like, or yet better, a certain someone she couldn’t admit she liked a little bit too much would put it – she would have just skipped over what she was doing and went on with her day. But she couldn’t. The stray cat she used to feed once a week – she found her under a bridge and, since she couldn’t adopt her, she found her a safer place to stay - recently had a little kitten, unbeknownst to Kanzaki herself. She didn’t notice it until the cat’s belly became too big and when it was essentially too late. She wanted adopt the cat and her future offspring but her house’s owner wouldn’t let her do that. Sighing, she surrendered to the fact that this was the best she could do.
She made a nest for said cat in a park near her house, and she started going there every day. She was almost there when she spotted the little playhouse for children where she put the cats. As she was taking out the food she prepared for them, she noticed another person inside the house. Immediately worried that it could be someone with bad intentions towards the little pets, she speeded up and ran towards the little house. She knew that there were people outside who liked to vent out to helpless creatures. Kanzaki was ready to confront whoever threatened her precious cats as she slammed open the little plastic door.
- Very well! – She shouted. Then, she froze on the door. She wanted to continue to talk but she was unable to. The reason being, the man she found in front of her, crouched down. At her sudden action, he turned around immediately and had a surprised – almost scared – expression painted on his face. Upon seeing him, the girl dashed towards the inner corner of the house. In doing that, she had to lower herself a bit, as the little house roof was too small for her. There, a worried striped brown cat was staring worriedly at her, eyes wide open. She was licking her little black kitten, but Kanzaki’s loud voice disturbed her and she was surprised too. As Kanzaki moved her eyes to the left, she noticed that the cat’s water was changed as the bowl was clean and they had fresh food.
Shifting her gaze to the other guest in the little space, she bitterly said:
- What are you doing? Are you trying to poison them? – Her voice was shaking.
The other man shrugged and sighed. – Why are you accusing me so lightly? -
Kanzaki replied angrily. – I don’t trust you, that’s why! -
- The Liar Game is over, I think it’s time you stopped seeing danger everywhere. -
- That’s exactly the reason why I was dragged in it – She stared at him blankly.
- Yokoya-san, what are you doing here? – She finally asked.
At those words, the man looked away and sighed again.
- I… wanted to talk to you. About… that night from last week. – He began, raising his eyes to look at her.
At those words, Kanzaki widened her eyes and her cheeks turned a bright red color. Yokoya, aware of her reaction, continued talking slowly, lowering his voice.
- Since you seem to avoid my calls and visits… I thought about getting ahead of you and go to the place you seem to go every morning... -
Kanzaki was at a loss and didn’t know to answer.
- Then, how did you know… - she started.
- About the cats? I guessed it. It sounded like something you would do. Looks like I was right. -
Seeing him acting so smug about his ability to predict her actions made her a bit angry.
- So… is it not really poisoned? -
- If I wanted to poison your cats, I would have done it when you weren’t here. I hope you remember I do know when you come here to feed them. -
- Because you’re a stalker. -
- I wouldn’t have the need to, if you just answered my calls. -
At those words, Kanzaki sighed. She wanted to talk with him, too. She just didn’t know how to admit to herself that she ended up liking a guy like him.
- So, is it possible to talk to you now? -
She looked at him straight in the eyes.
- Only if you promise to adopt those two in your house. I guess you do have some extra space for them, don’t you? -
Yokoya laughed. In the end, Kanzaki always managed to have the upper hand on him and that was what made him fall so hard for her.
